Program Description

Introduction

Students often think of nature as something they have to travel somewhere to see. But when they are able to experience nature in their schoolyards, it is an amazing discovery!

Schoolyard habitat

This free program offers teachers a number of resources to help provide an interdisciplinary learning experience for students that meets state and local standards. At the same time, it gives students the opportunity to make a personal connection to nature, a gift that can last a lifetime.

Happenin' Habitats provides information about:

  • different types of habitats
  • tips for working with students outdoors
  • inclusive instructional techniques
  • how to create accessible Schoolyard Habitats® sites
  • a fun story about Skippy, a squirrel who lives on school grounds
  • a variety of teacher resources that will help you get started using your own schoolyards.
